This Mid Century fourplex in Culver City, CA, received a total building makeover keeping the basic architectural 1950’s details, while adding a modern twist. In spite of going kind of modern they did not give up the warmth, of the look of the space, keeping the brick wall, and covering the old ruined floors with new 5” engineered white oak planking.
The first thing we did was nail down some loose pieces in the old floor, to make sure that we were not going to have any squeaks, the we covered the old flooring as prescribed by the NOFMA guidelines with 15 pound black felt paper. We then stapled the 5 inch plank to the old floor using 13/4” staples so the stapling was passing right through the old flooring, and grabbing the subfloor as well. We lightly sanded the Floor and finished it with Woca natural and white oil. The result speaks for itself.
