How do I know if my hardwood floor can be sanded and re-stained?
Here is a helpful little TIP!
If you see nail heads showing on the seams of the boards, like they are in this picture, its a sure sign that the floor cannot be re-sanded without falling apart.
These are the tops of the small casing nails that were driven into the side of the strips to hold them together!!
This Floor has had its last sanding!!!
Other indications that the hardwood floor is beyond saving:
1. The floor shows extreme movement between the boards, this movement will negatively affect the sanding and finish.
2. There are to many damaged areas requiring a great deal of repair work to the floor and sub floor.
3. Floors that have been previously sanded too many times.
4. Pet stains and water stains often cannot be removed.
