All wood floors require routine maintenance such as sweeping or dust mopping, but different wood flooring finishes require different care for long term beauty. When choosing the finish for your wood floors consider your lifestyle.
Surface finishes are durable, water-resistant, and require minimal maintenance
- Water-based finishes are clear, durable and will dry in two to three hours.
- Oil-based finishes are amber in color, very durable and will dry in about eight hours.
- Acid-cured finishes are clear to slightly amber , extremely durable and dry in two to three hours.
- Moisture-cured finishes , extremely durable and more moisture-resistant . They dry in two to three hours.
Wax finishes soak into the wood and harden to form a protective penetrating seal. They are durable but show spots from water and other contaminates.
Acrylic impregnated finishes are injected into the wood to create a super-hard, extremely durable floor. Rarely used in residential applications.
UV cured finishes are waterborne finishes cured using ultraviolet light.
Penetrating and hardening oils are used with blends of additives that can assist in drying and hardness
